Artist Statement 

I am interested in the relationship we have with functional objects. One vessel holds memories passed through generations. As a child we all coveted my great-grandmother’s cookie jar. It is an object so valued, it is used every day. It still sits on my mother’s counter, with a few lovely chips in theglaze. I strive to create on object that is so valued it demands daily use. I want my work to blur the line between fine china and everyday ware.

Decoration is added in layers to create an object that begs to be touched. I am inspired by different elements of daily life; foliage, architecture, textiles, and food. I use different motifs to create patterns that are evocative of these elements. I glaze in a style that is reminiscent of vintage Pyrex ware. I enjoy contrast, a handmade object from a commercial memory.
